For all its slightly soapy beats and tear-jerking storylines, the programme manages to capture the chaos of a schoolroom of teenagers, and the love, warmth and concealed bitterness of a close-knit family unit. Tonight’s series-three opener is a case in point — no surprise given that it is written by the series co-creator and East is East writer Ayub Khan Din, that great chronicler of British-Asian life.
