Rooney’s D.C. United visit BMO Field on Saturday to open the post-season in the first of four one-and-done rounds on the revamped road to the MLS Cup. Rooney made his first appearance for D.C. United in July 2018 as a substitute in the inaugural game at Audi Field, their state-of-the-art soccer specific stadium. The buzz about the new venue coincided with the arrival of the former Manchester United star to help revive local interest in one of the league’s most decorated clubs. Rooney was at the centre of that turnaround on the field and off, said Toronto FC captain Michael Bradley. Rooney scored 23 goals and contributed 15 assists in 48 regular-season appearances.
