Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi attends a military ceremony at the Hotel des Invalides in Paris on October 24, 2017 - AFP/Charles PlatiauCAIRO – 15 April 2018: Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al Sisi met Saturday head of the Presidential Council of Libya Fayez al-Sarraj in the Saudi city of Dammam where the 29th Arab League Summit is set to kick off on Sunday.During the meeting, the Egyptian president urged all the Libyan political factions to promote the national interest of their country and aid the United Nations (UN) envoy to Libya to restore peace to the troubled state, according to presidential spokesperson Bassam Radi.The Libyan prime minister of Government of the National Accord “GNA” praised the Egyptian efforts to restore political stability in Libya and build its national institutions.Both leaders discussed bilateral relations, common economic interests and the expected Supreme Egyptian-Libyan joint committee.Libya’s Sarraj commended the Egyptian initiatives to unify the Libyan army, namely Egypt’s initiative that kicked off in July 2017 to unify the military institutions.The initiative’s first meeting aimed at creating a framework for the initiative, while the second and third meetings were held in Cairo from Oct. 29 to Nov. 2, 2017, to follow up on the results of the first meeting.The fourth meeting was held from Dec. 6 to 9 to restructure the Libyan army.Egyptian Officials met again with Libyan military forces in Cairo on Feb. 21 in order to continue the discussions that started on Feb. 16.President Sisi headed on Saturday to Saudi Arabia to participate in the 29th Arab League Summit, which is set to kick off in Dammam on Sunday.
