Bengal police sub-inspector Rajsekhar Pain, perceived as being close to Ghosh, was arrested from the West Midnapore police lines. According to Mondal, the police had not returned the money despite repeated requests to the offices of the Kaharagpur police station officer-in-charge and the West Midnapore police superintendent. Ghosh was the West Midnapore police superintendent at that time and Pain the Kharagpur (local) police station OC. Arrest warrants have been issued against Ghosh and her guard, constable Sujit Mandal, in connection with a gold extortion racket that was reported in West Midnapore. "When caught, they will be charged separately in the two cases (the embezzlement and the gold racket)," said a CID source.
