By THOMAS P. CALDWELL, LACONIA DAILY SUNBRISTOL — In a letter to the seven towns comprising the Newfound Area School District, School Administrative Unit 4 Superintendent Stacy Buckley maintains that the administration’s default budget is proper, appropriate, and legal. Bristol resident Archie Auger sent a letter to the selectmen of each of the towns, saying that the school district’s default budget included $712,300 in capital improvement items that voters have never approved. “As such, the starting point for the default budget is the amount of last year’s appropriations,” Buckley says. Buckley argues that the statute applies only to specific multi-year capital projects, and not to a capital improvement plan. The complaint about the default budget is on the agenda for discussion at Monday’s School Board meeting.
