Morocco sustains counter-terror campaign, as Prime Minister struggles to set up new cabinetJanuary 10, 2017: The North Africa Journal: By Hakim Briki: The CIA has warned a number of countries, including Morocco, of a risk of Berlin-like attacks conducted by Islamic State militants in the next few weeks. The CIA information may not have changed Morocco’s readiness as protective measures to counter terror groups have long been put in place. It remains unknown whether such measures are efficient enough to have thwarted attacks, or whether militants have refrained from targeting Morocco. While most people arrested were released, others are still in police custody over suspected ties to the Islamic State organization. The European Union’s high court ruled that the European Union trade agreements with Morocco should not apply to the disputed Western Sahara region.
