Vipassana Meditation Centre's Kirsty McKay said the council was not measuring gunfire noise correctly. A meditation centre is continuing its fight with a neighbouring shooting club, this time taking Auckland Council to the Supreme Court over disputes about measuring gunfire noise. The Vipassana Foundation Charitable Trust recently won an appeal against Auckland Council's grant of a certificate of compliance to Auckland Shooting Club in Makarau, north of Helensville. The Court of Appeal rejected part of the Trust Board's appeal about the right approach to measuring noise from shooting ranges, she said. Independent acoustics engineer Stephen Chiles said the unitary plan did not include any specific noise limits for gunfire sound.
