Luxury train operator open to taking Taranaki detourCAMERON BURNELL/STUFF Antipodes Explorer NZ director Richard Aitken and co-founder general manager Amanda Johnston are hoping to bring luxury train travel back to New Zealand and their plans could include Taranaki. A luxury train excursion, reminiscent of the Orient Express, could wind its way through Taranaki. Plans have been announced to begin a high-end train service between Queenstown and Auckland by 2019. "Some parts of the rail network we cannot use, and there are other parts we can." Currently Taranaki's rail network is used for freighting dairy products between New Plymouth, Hawera and Palmerston North.
