ALOR SETAR: Kedah says it is among the six states which agreed with the Water, Land and Natural Resources Ministry’s plan to raise the water tariff. State Works, Water Resources and Water Supply Committee chairman Zamri Yusuf, who revealed this, however said the state government did not agree with the proposed 20% tariff increase submitted by the National Water Services Commission (SPAN). “The amount is not appropriate, we disagree with the amount but we are not totally against it (the proposal to raise the water tariff). “Before raising the tariff rates, we want to ensure that the people in the state are able to pay for the water tariff and ensure that the water supply services improve,” he said after attending the state legislative assembly session here yesterday. Zamri said water supply in Kedah was adequate with the water level in five dams recording satisfactory readings and able to cater for domestic and agricultural needs throughout the year.
