The University Grants Commission (UGC) – Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC), functioning under the University of Kerala, has been notified as a National Resource Centre (NRC) by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development for online refresher courses for teachers in Commerce. The others included NRCs at Jawaharlal Nehru University (History), University of Delhi (Botany) and Sambalpur University (Tribal Studies). Established in 1987, the UGC – HRDC, which functions on the Karyavattom campus, has figured in the top-ranking positions among 66 HRDCs in the country for the last 10 years. It currently offers 30 courses, including refresher courses and short-term courses, besides organising orientation courses, and special summer and winter school programmes. Long-term gainsDr. Sudheer pointed out that besides being a notable achievement, the selection of the centre as a National Resource Centre will ensure long-term gains for the university.
