(File photo)A former Taranaki businessman currently locked up and awaiting trial on drug charges has had his bid for freedom declined. Lauchlan James MacMillan will remain in prison until his next court hearing in August after an application for electronically-monitored bail was refused by Judge Lynne Harrison in New Plymouth District Court on Thursday. The application was opposed by the Crown and subsequently denied by Judge Harrison. He is defending 30 methamphetamine-related charges, most of which arose from a New Plymouth drug bust in October, by way of jury trial which is not likely to be held until 2020.
