Cabinet denies raising prices of train tickets in Eidel-Fitr


Passengers wait as a strike by drivers suspends train traffic in Egypt at the main station in Cairo - ReutersCAIRO - 15 May 2019: The Cabinet denied Wednesday raising the prices of all train tickets in Eidel-Fitr and stressed that all the rumors spreading on social media are baseless, according to a statement issued by the Cabinet's media center.Meanwhile, the ministry asserted its full readiness for Eidel-Fitr holiday, noting that additional trains have been added to be operated during the holiday mainly on the Cairo-Aswan and Alexandria-Aswan routes.In addition, a number of committees have been formed to ensure that the work flow is regular during the working hours of Eidel-Fitr and accurately monitor the movement of trains and immediately report emergencies, the ministry said.The ministry called for media outlets and social media users to seek accuracy before spreading such news.Earlier, the Cabinet denied reports about the Health Ministry's plan to replace Egyptian nurses with foreign ones as part of the new comprehensive health insurance system.Eidel-Fitr is a three day holiday in Egypt. The word Eid is an Arabic word that means a festivity, a celebration, a recurring happiness, and a feast.In Islam, there are two major Eids, namely Eidel-Fitr (Festival of Breaking the Fast) which celebrates the end of Ramadan and Eidel-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice) which coincides with the Hajj and commemorates Prophet Abraham’s sacrifice of a sheep in place of his son Ismael.
