A camper's tale - the sequel

A camper's tale - the sequelMONIQUE FORD A sighting of takahe at the Tawharanui open sanctuary north of Auckland turned Bob Irvine into a "lovesick greenie". I'm body-sore from sleeping – I use the word poetically – on a narrow torture-rack of a stretcher, then lumpy ground. I am zipped back into my bellows when the sickening beat of a rescue helicopter rallies campers. From the lack of urgency, campers guess the emergency is no longer acute. (Tawharanui, the Swiss army knife of conservation, is an 'open' bird sanctuary and a marine sanctuary rimmed by postcard beaches.)
