According to Nielsen, diverse, or “shift populations,” are projected to represent 54% of the U.S. population by 2050 with Hispanics alone accounting for 30%. According to PBS “News Hour,” just four states were majority-minority in 2014 (places where shift populations are a greater percentage than whites). But leaders continue to keep shift populations on the margins by focusing their efforts on representation not recognition – on diversity and not inclusion. But that kind of healthy skepticism requires diversity of thought and that’s complicated. In 2018, please avoid these crucial mistakes and resolve to do something to challenge the status quo.
