KUALA LUMPUR: The battle for the national No 1 position has intensified with Ng Eain Yow threatening to dethrone Nafiizwan Adnan as the country's top-ranked player. National champion Ivan Yuen hovers at No 48 although he has not played since early November for health reasons. Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) director of coaching Mej (rtd) S. Maniam is delighted with the progress 19-year-old Eain Yow is making in challenging his seniors. "In a way it is a blessing and it could happen soon enough with Eain Yow becoming No 1 in the country," said Maniam on Wednesday. "I'm not saying he's going to be the next Ramy (a three-time world champion) but he's on the right path."
