The Brady House branch has been the nerve centre for a skein of fraudulent transactions that have so far affected Rs 11,400 crore. Gitanjali Gems - owned by Mehul Choksi, Nirav's maternal uncle and also embroiled in the country's biggest banking fraud - said three top officials of the company had resigned. Joseph's elevation to the Supreme Court, saying wrong signals were being sent to the judiciary and judges with an independent mind. The Supreme Court collegium had cleared for elevation Justice Joseph's name on January 10 along with that of senior advocate Indu Malhotra. But the Centre has not yet cleared the files related to either the Uttarakhand High Court judge or the advocate. "We, the members of the Kerala High Court Advocates Association, unanimously express our deep concern and anxiety over the delay...," the resolution added.

Panaji: A Goa journalist was detained on Monday in connection with alleged false news about the health of chief minister Manohar Parrikar, who is admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. "We have detained journalist Harish Volvoikar as part of an investigation. He was questioned related to the false news that is being circulated," inspector-general of police Jaspal Singh said. In his complaint, Desai had said the false news was circulated on February 17. Earlier in the day, the journalist was also stopped from attending the ongoing Assembly session when Goa governor Mridula Sinha addressed the legislators.

The loans the family is alleged to have defaulted on include Rs 754.77 crore (Bank of India), Rs 456.63 crore (Bank of Baroda), Rs 771.07 crore (Indian Overseas Bank), Rs 458.95 crore (Union Bank of India), Rs 330.68 crore (Allahabad Bank), Rs 49.82 crore (Bank of Maharashtra) and Rs 97.47 crore (Oriental Bank of Commerce). Agency sources said Bank of Baroda had tipped off the agency about the alleged fraud on Sunday night.

Raigar, who is lodged in Jodhpur central jail after he murdered Mohammad Afrazul from Bengal last December, named the inmate as Vasudev, an accused in the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Rajasthan home minister Gulab Chand Kataria said it was being investigated how Raigar got access to a mobile phone inside the jail. In the latest video, Raigar said he was "infuriated" over a "jihadist comment" targeting Hindu women, and that was why he killed Afrazul. The Jodhpur central jail administration said it had launched an "intense search operation" to find out how Raigar was able to make the videos using a cellphone. Jail superintendent Vikram Singh said they were investigating the matter and had also reviewed Raigar's security.

Our Special CorrespondentSrinagar: Security forces killed a 55-year-old mentally challenged man in central Kashmir's Budgam district on Sunday night after he purportedly tried to enter the highly fortified Air Force Station and raised the suspicion that he could be a suicide attacker. Last week, militants stormed an army camp in Jammu and killed six soldiers and a jawan's father. Locals identified the man as Syed Habibullah of Soibugh village in Budgam. They said Syed, who was mentally challenged, was survived by three sons and a daughter and that the family was extremely poor. "A spot examination revealed that the individual who appeared to be mentally challenged had died in the incident," the spokesperson added.

Vipul - the son of Natulal Ambani, Dhirubhai's youngest brother - joined Firestar reportedly around three years ago. According to Bloomberg, Vipul is a chemical engineer who started his career at Reliance Industries Ltd. The CBI arrested three more PNB executives, including the then chief manager, Bechhu Tiwari.
