Ryan Coogler has officially signed on to write and direct Black Panther 2, or whatever the sequel ends up being titled (I will refrain from my usual "Big Balloon Adventure" jokes). This isn't exactly a surprise, and if I were cynical I would argue that the timing was partially about reminding Oscar pundits that Black Panther is still in the running. Black Panther was very much a Ryan Coogler film, and it was he and Cole who made the movie mean something more than just being Marvel's first solo black superhero movie. I don't know what he's being paid for this venture, but I imagine it's a lot, maybe over/under whatever Jenkins got for Wonder Woman 1984. Since Coogler is explicitly associated with the Black Panther series, he can afford to strut (or skip) around the Marvel/Disney lot at whatever speed he chooses.
